"Clean" Eating
Happy New Year! Many of you may have set eating healthier as your resolution for 2016. Eating a wholesome diet full of fruits and veggies that are chemical free should be a no-brainer if you have this list of what is safe (Clean 15) and what is not (Dirty Dozen). Much of the produce in the grocery store is laden with chemicals which you then ingest. Buying organic can be expensive so if you have to pick and choose what to buy organic refer to the list below compiled by Christa Orechio with The Whole Journey to make the call for you and your family. She also suggests washing any conventional fruits and veggies with a wash that you can make yourself to rid these products of chemical residue.
The Dirty Dozen:
Apples
Celery
Strawberries (all berries)
Nectarines
Spinach
Peaches
Sweet Bell Peppers
Grapes
Blueberries
Lettuce
Potatoes
Kale/Collard Greens/Leafy Greens
Clean 15:
Onions
Corn
Avocado
Cantaloupe
Pineapple
Mangoes
Asparagus
Sweet Peas
Kiwi Fruit
Cabbage
Eggplant
Watermelon
Sweet Potato
Grapefruit
Mushroom
Fruit and Veggie Wash:
1 cup water
1 cup white distilled vinegar
1 T baking soda (added slowly)
20 drops grapefruit seed extract
Mix ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle. Spray on Fruits and veggies that are not organic and leave for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off with water and enjoy.
